What is Ringette?
Ringette is quite different than other ice sports. In fact, while it looks a bit like hockey, it more closely resembles lacrosse or basketball in terms of its offensive and defensive play.
Ringette uses sticks with specially designed tips and a rubber ring. The objective is to score on the opponent by shooting the ring into their net.
Ringette uses the 2 blue lines but not the centre line. It also uses 2 additional free play lines which create zones unique to ringette. Unlike hockey, the ring must be passed across the blue lines. This encourages team play, enhancing the flow of the game and making it very fast. Only three players from each team may enter the offensive or defensive zone at a time.
Like basketball and lacrosse, in most divisions of Ringette, there is a shot clock that forces the teams to shoot quickly.

How do I register?
Just click on the 'REGISTRATION' page near the top left hand side of any page in our website for more information or to sign up.
Where do we play?
Practices are at the North Shore rinks (Ice Sports, Karen Magnussen, Harry Jerome or West Van Arena). Games are throughout the lower mainland (1/2 on the North Shore).
What equipment is needed?
The players wear full protective equipment like hockey players but ringette uses a unique stick, ring and face mask. Ringette players wear jerseys but wear long pants instead of short pants and socks like hockey players do. The goalie uses regular goalie equipment but in ringette some goalies use a unique catching glove.
For more detailed information, please refer to our 'EQUIPMENT' page.
Where can I buy equipment?
Most equipment should be readily available at sporting stores and used sports equipment stores. Or, you can check out NWVRA's 'BUY & SELL' page to sell or purchase gently used ringette equipment.
How can parents volunteer or help out?
We LOVE volunteers! Associations such as NWVRA need help from parents in order to keep things running - period. The jobs range from scorekeeping a game to being the NWVRA President. Please check out our 'VOLUNTEERS' page for ways to help out.
